Artist Statement

The natural world is an incredible place. Sitting quietly and letting nature flow over, connects us to our core. Because it is our deepest and longest human connection, peace is able to seep into the soul. The ecosystem is an all encompassing circle, one that we belong to. This belonging can be felt watching the birds fly, harvesting food, sitting amongst grass and flowers, or hearing the river roll by. Once belonging is deeply felt, love of nature takes hold. We all came from nature, and will all return one day. Protecting our precious environment is truly protectinging what makes us human.

Balance

Balance is at the heart of every ecosystem, and the organization of every organism’s inner and outer workings. Flowers remind us of that beauty, through their unique structures.

Moving on

Watching birds fly over the clouds, through brilliant rays of light, and into the infinite blue of the sky, remind us of the freedom found in life.  

Redwood Sorrel

This ground cover is found in many lush, forested areas of North America. This plant plays the important role of fixing nitrogen in the soil, preventing erosion, and providing food and habitat for many woodland creatures.

Carnation

The pink carnation flower represents love and a connection that can never be forgotten. Even after physical death, connection and love are maintained. 

Breath

Breath is the first and final act of life. It is one of the few physical actions that carry living creatures through each day in every stage of life. 

Bubble

Consciousness breaks down when the body lets go. This is the ultimate transition that remains elusive to all. 

Grass

Grass is a biome that provides massive carbon sinks. Beyond its essential role in creating habitat, cycling nutrients, and aiding the stability of the Earth’s climate, it is incredibly beautiful. The individual is part of a seemingly infinite collective.

Spring Trees

The rhythm of the wind shapes the land. Tall grass flows, clouds drift past, and trees bend. This rhythm is evident and unique to each landscape.

Monarchs

Movement is tied to generational knowledge. The monarch butterfly has one of the most unique migration patterns. This migration pattern is stored in the butterflies DNA and is completed over multiple generations.

Meadow Color

Meadows have striking colorful appearances. This beauty is explained by bio diversity. Essentially, many plants and trees are able to coexist, creating a stable biome that is beneficial to all.

Irises

A graden is adorned with striking blooms. The gardner is able to better encourage these blooms by cycling dead plants back into the soil through composting. The relationship with dead organic material and live plants is facilitated through the microbiome. All those beautiful colors arise from the soil. 

Star Flower

Star flower is another forest ground cover found in North American Forests. These plants carpet the forest floor, fixing nitrogen into the soil, preventing erosion, and providing habitat to many woodland creatures. Their small flowers appear as bright jewels scattered about the understory. 

Red Shouldered Hawk

The red shouldered hawk is a fierce predator found in North America. It is characterized by red shoulders, and bars on the tail. The ability of these large raptors to gracefully glide on air currents is truly remarkable.

Kestrel

The Kestrel is a small predatory falcon in North America. Though they are small, these birds are highly territorial, and will chase off much larger predatory birds. They display facinating hunting strategies by swooping down from high vantage points, and are known for their ability to hover in place.
